Graco Nautilus Safety Rating | Graco Nautilus

www.graco-nautilus.com About Graco In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the firm, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to manufacture his own line of products, but had trouble coming up with ideas. Enter David Saint, an engineer, tinkerer, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco. Saint, himself a father of nine, was intrigued when an associate told him how his wife would soothe their tired and cranky baby while swinging in a backyard glider swing. Acting on this inspiration, he went to the drawing board and 18 months of hard work later, the world's first wind-up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic, was born. Graco sold millions of Swyngomatics in the coming years, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. Today, Graco is a Newell Rubbermaid company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While a half-century has brought many changes to Graco, their dedication and commitment to designing and manufacturing top-quality products remains, and continues on. Finding the Best Baby Cribs on the Market

It's a fact that babies love to sleep. That's why it's so imperative to select the right baby crib for the nursery The question is...which baby cribs are the best? The answer to that is...there are many good baby cribs that will meet your needs. You just need to know the secret to finding the perfect crib for your baby.

Tip #1: When hunting for baby cribs, don't make your selection based on beauty alone. Do your research!

There are so many cribs nowadays that offer incredible beauty, adorable finishes and interesting designs, but just because a crib is sensational that doesn't mean that it's right for your baby's nursery. It's important to do research about the manufacturer, building process, materials used and recalls.

Tip #2: Learn everything you can about the manufacturer.

If there's a crib brand that you like then start by looking online to see if you can find information about the crib manufacturer. Check to see how long they've been in business. Learn all about their crib manufacturing process. Find out what type of materials they use including: woods, glues and chemicals. If you want an eco-friendly crib then make sure that they're an eco-friendly manufacturer. You also might want to check to see if their cribs have earned a JPMA certification as proof of safety.

Tip #3: Research recalls on all baby cribs in the last several years.

You can go to CPSC.gov and look up crib recalls to see if that manufacturer has had any major recalls in the last few years. But, just because they do have cribs that were recalled doesn't rule them out completely. You'll want to look at which cribs had recalls and why. Then check to see how the manufacturer handled the recalls and make sure that the crib you're looking at isn't on any recall list.

Tip #4: Decide which features and options are most important to you in a baby crib.

Once you decide on the particular brand of crib you want then it's time to pick out important features and options. Write a list of things you definitely want in your baby crib. If you want a bottom drawer on wheels, put that on your list. If you want an attachable changing station, put that down. Then check to see what features and options are available on the baby cribs you like. This will help you narrow down your choices to just a few or just one crib.

Tip #5: Measure your baby's nursery.

Once you know that the crib is a quality baby bed and made by a reputable company, it's time to measure, measure, measure. Measure the nursery and then check the baby crib's dimensions to make sure it will fit. Also decide what other furnishings you need and make sure you can fit those into the space with the crib in the room. There are mini cribs, standard cribs and convertible cribs which all come in different sizes, so make sure to get one that's just right for your baby's space.

Tip #6: Once you've done the research, picked the options and measured the space it's time to place your order.

Getting a complete nursery set is always a smart choice. Getting a set eliminates the chance of furnishings not matching in color and style. It might say that the crib is cherry and you might find a cherry changing table somewhere else, but the two cherry finishes could be different, making the pair look awkward in the room. If you get a full set you know you're getting furnishings that all offer the same quality, color and style that will make decorating the nursery a cinch.

Complementing Your Nursery Design With Designer Baby Cribs

Buying baby furniture such as baby cribs usually means balancing practicality with affordability, but you should never forget the importance of design and good looks in the decision making process. Babies are as much a part of the family as anybody else and they will almost certainly attract a lot of attention from other family members and friends as well, which may mean quick visits to the nursery to show him off. Whilst safety and practicality should obviously come first when choosing anything for your newborn baby that doesn't mean you have to compromise in terms of quality and design either.

Choosing Crib Styles

Practicality is important and you need to consider how readily available bedding will prove to be for round, oval, or even large rectangular cribs will prove to be. Buying the best looking oval crib may seem like a great idea at the time but if you don't buy enough bedding to go with it and you can't easily or readily get hold of bedding in the future then your purchase will have ultimately proven a mistake. With that said, you can buy bedding for oval cribs but it is certainly a consideration to bear in mind.

Ensuring Quality

Another important factor is the quality of the crib itself. Poor quality cribs may not only need replacing but may prove dangerous for your baby. Small parts can break off and cause choking hazards while poorly designed mattresses and bedding that is included with the crib can also be dangerous in its own way so pay careful attention when you're shopping around for the perfect designer baby cribs.

Bassinets

If space is an issue for you or you want baby near you should he wake up in the night, then you may want to look at the possibility of buying a bassinet rather than a crib. They are a lot smaller and more portable which means that they can usually fit into your room and are lightweight enough to be moved from one room to another as and when needed.

Cost

If cost is an issue, and it often is because of the cost of buying a whole range of stuff for a newborn child, then a bassinet may not be a practical solution. They have lower sides because they are really only designed for young babies that are not yet able to move around freely at night. When baby does start to wriggle and roll in the night then it is time to move him into a crib as a more permanent solution and to prevent him from falling out in the night.

Designer Baby Cribs

Designer baby cribs come in a selection of different styles and designs ranging from classic to contemporary and are also available in any of numerous different colors. As such, they can be chosen to match the design of the nursery while you can ensure that you get a high quality, long lasting baby crib and a functional addition to the nursery or to baby's bedroom.

Things to Consider When Buying a Baby Crib

There are so many different price ranges, types and styles of baby cribs available today that it can be quite mind boggling. The first questions that should pop into your head are what you should be looking for and where to start. Crib safety should be the most important consideration for the baby's sake. This will include crib placement as well as several other safety related aspects. This is a very important consideration when looking at meeting the needs of your little one. No matter if you are building your own or buying one, there are a few tips that you should use when choosing a crib.

Once again, safety is the most important factor when buying a crib. There are many safety standards that have been put into place by the government as to the standards a baby crib must meet. If you are purchasing or will be getting a used baby crib then you should check it out according to these standards. Any issues should be corrected before using the crib. One of the most important of these issues is to check for loose, broken or missing slats. Any that are loose should be properly secured, and any that are broken or missing should be replaced. You should also check out all the hardware to make sure it is properly tightened as well. Decorative cutouts are pretty to look at but very dangerous for a little one. They could get stuck and hurt or worse. Avoid beds with such cutouts.

The sides and corner posts of a baby crib are another issue that can involve a good deal of checking. Crib slats on the headboard, footboard and/or sides of the crib should not be over 2-1/8" apart. Any further and your baby could possibly get his or her little head stuck in between. All corner posts of the crib should be no higher than 1/16" above the head or footboard. Any higher and these could pose a hanging hazard. No matter if the crib comes with one or both sides that can be lowered to reach you little one, you should check them out. Make sure that the latching mechanisms are functioning properly especially their ability to properly latch closed. A baby crib with defective latches could allow the sides to drop open and the baby could possibly get injured.

One other very important issue to check into is the mattress for your baby crib. You should make sure that the mattress fits the baby crib in a snug fashion. It doesn't matter if you are buying a new bed that comes with its own or if you are purchasing a mattress for a crib you bought without one. It is possible for a little one to become caught between a mattress and the slats or posts if a mattress doesn't fit the crib properly.

No matter what shape, size, color or fashion of baby crib you purchase it is important to make sure that it is both safe and sound. Little ones love to wriggle, wiggle and crawl. As such we must do our best to keep them safe and secure. This means making safety checks on all equipment that will be involved in their care.
