Baby Travel Crib - 7 Vital Tips to Check Before Buying

When you travel with your baby or toddler a portable baby travel crib will be a must. It will ensure your peace of mind as you know your child will be safe, see tip 5, and you know that the bed will always be fresh and clean. In this article I have put together a few ideas that, if followed, will ensure you have a good experience with your selected baby travel crib.

Tip 1.

Check the manufactures literature, also see if there are any online videos available, showing how the Crib is set up and folded. Written instructions can make the unfold appear so so easy but try putting the crib up in an unfamiliar room, single handed, with a screaming baby in one arm! Try to see if you can watch the fold as well, does it unlock and fold down smoothly or will you need to wrestle it into the packing?

Tip 2.

Check online literature and comments of customers who have already purchased, this way you will get the opinion of someone who has spent money on the particular product, not that of a practiced sales person who wants you to spend your dollars with them.

Tip 3.

Find out how much the closed package, ready to travel, weighs. This can vary anywhere between 10 to 30 pounds, doesn't sound much on its own, but add it to other luggage and it could be the back breaker, hopefully not literally! Be aware that the heaviest packs are not necessarily the most stable when open, see tip 5.

Tip 4.

Check if special sized sheets are needed, if so does the manufacturer make a special set, many do nowadays so be aware that this is something to look out for. Of course ordinary sheets can be folded, but its so much easier to have fitted bedding, after all you may well be traveling for pleasure, so why make life more difficult?

Tip 5.

Pay particular attention to users comments on stability, some that seem to be ideal cribs are meant for use outdoors as playpens, and may need staking to the ground to ensure stability, great in a field but you'll be unpopular in a hotel room, both with the owner and the guests downstairs!

Tip 6.

Select a crib that is easy to clean, can any non wipeable parts come off for washing? This may seem unimportant for your first child, but if you want to keep the crib smart and clean for future additions to your family it comes to the fore.

Tip 7.

Does the crib have a cover to keep baby in and bugs and mosquitoes out? These are normally in the form of a mesh zip door, and are brilliant as the crib can also be used at times as a playpen, and your hotel room will not be littered with ejected soft toys.

Whale's Tale Crib Bedding by Lambs & Ivy - A Product Review

Lambs & Ivy is a well-recognized and respected designer and manufacturer of baby crib bedding and accessories, available at national chains and baby specialty stores throughout the United States and at a wide assortment of internet retailers. Whale's Tale crib bedding, first introduced to consumers in early 2005, presents an interesting alternative to those who are seeking a sea life theme for their nursery décor, a surprisingly under populated theme based upon my research of competing products offered by major manufacturers. Whales Tale appears to strike a reasonable balance between quality and price, representing a good value at between $165 and $200 for a six-piece crib set.

Whale's Tale is sold as a six-piece crib set including a quilt, bumper, fitted sheet, crib skirt, valance, and diaper stacker. The fitted sheet and valance are also available for separate purchase. The Whale's Tale collection is made from 100% cotton and is machine washable - a very practical advantage. The typical assortment of coordinating accessories are available to fill out the nursery: musical mobile, wall border, wall decorations, pillows, blankets, lamp and shade, hamper, and rug. An interesting accessory, not available with many other crib bedding collections, is a child sized upholstered rocking chair, a nice touch to make an older sibling feel a part of the new nursery.

The Whale's Tale collection features soft velour whales on the quilt, bumper, and other accessories. There are also appliquéd fish, seahorses, and octopi swimming throughout the collection. The "ocean" is made from a printed light blue striped fabric and blue terrycloth. Printed fabrics are of a lesser quality than woven fabrics, however I think that the addition of the terrycloth adds a unique aspect to the collection. Moreover, the Ocean/Sea Life theme used in Whale's Tale is relatively uncommon in the crib bedding industry.

The bumper stands 9" tall with ties on the top and bottom. A slight drawback of the bumper is the fact that it comes as one continuous piece, as opposed to being broken up into two, three, or even four pieces. The crib skirt has a 13" drop to complete the look of the set. The fitted sheet is a light purple/lavender color with the sea animals printed onto the sheet. Due to the fact that the sheet is a printed fabric, I would caution a buyer to be aware that the pattern could fade or wear more quickly than would be the case with a higher quality woven fabric; I would recommend that consumers purchase separate solid colored sheets for every day use (white or pale blue should work just fine), and reserve the Whale's Tale sheet for when you want to show off your nursery to visitors. The valance measures 14" by 70" and comes in the rod style. The diaper stacker can hold up to three dozen diapers.

Because Whale's Tale merchandise is assembled in the United States, it can be particularly appealing for Canadian customers purchasing from a US retailer. It can be shipped to Canada duty-free, thereby avoiding charges of 17% or more of the purchase price that apply to bedding manufactured in China or India.

My research indicates that alternatives in the Ocean/Sea Life theme category are limited when it comes to the major national brands. You might be interested in Lilly by Glenna Jean, which is significantly pricier, or a number of patterns offered by California Kids, which are also higher priced. As it frequently happens, if Whale's Tale is successful with consumers, other manufacturers will quickly come out with new collections to fill out the category.

Treating and Preventing Drool Rash When Baby is Teething

Drool rash is very common when babies go through the teething process. The excess saliva that babies normally have while they teethe can irritate their sensitive skin and cause a red rash around their mouth. It can sometimes appear on their cheeks, neck and chest as well.

While drool rash doesn't usually bother baby, it's still a good idea to keep it under control as much as possible. Every baby is different and not all methods will work for everyone, but here are 5 ways that should help minimize drool rash, if not get rid of it completely:

Keep baby's face as dry from drool as possible. Gently pat their face with a soft dry cloth throughout the day. Laundry detergent can also be an irritant for baby's skin so you may want to wash all of baby's clothing, sheets and washcloths with natural, fragrance-free detergent.

Have a towel or cloth under their bed sheet to soak up any drool while baby sleeps. Their faces rub against the wet sheet which can exacerbate the rash.

Applying a bit of petroleum jelly can help soothe a rash if it seems like it's bothering your baby. This will help keep their skin moist and should help control any itching.

Keeping baby's clothes dry throughout the day will help keep their from rash being irritated any further. You can have baby wear a bib and replace it with a fresh one every few hours. This is also handy for preventing stains due to spit up.

If your baby's drool rash persists and is becoming bothersome, you may want to talk to your pediatrician or pharmacist and ask them to recommend a cream. Keep in mind however that this may irritate the rash even further, so use this only as a last resort.

Should I Give My Baby Fresh Fruit Juice?

Your little one is just getting onto puree food and you want to give them the best start in life. You want to ensure they get all the vitamins and minerals and that it is fresh with no nasty added ingredients. So juicing fruits and giving it to them is a good idea you might think. Wrong!

You might be surprised but babies under 6 months don't need the nutrition that fruit juice provides. Your baby is already receiving vitamin c through the foods you are feeding him already and if you are breast feeding him or her then be aware that breast milk contains vitamin C.

Fruit juice is far too concentrated for a baby. It is high in natural sugars (fructose), this can lead to your baby developing diarrhea, it should also be noted that feeding sweet fruit juice to a baby at such a young age can lead to a preference to sweet tasting foods. Which is not a good start for any baby.

Babies will get all the nourishment, vitamins and minerals from a well balanced and advised diet. Always check with your doctor before taking any form of advice concerning what foods to feed your baby. Also never take the advice off the Internet, you never know where the information was sourced.

Returning to juice if you do decide at some point to start feeding your baby juice, firstly as mentioned above, check with your doctor. If he agrees (I doubt he will) then dilute it. Undiluted juice has a cleansing affect on adults and in large quantities can have an adverse affect. Where a baby is concerned you really don't want to risk it's health and any adverse affects will be far more serious than suffered by an adult.

However why not go ahead and juice for yourself, babies can run you down, what with sleepless nights and basically being on call 24hrs a day. Supplying your body with freshly squeezed juice and veg is a great way to help keep your energy and mood up. It's great for adults, just not so great for babies.

Get Yourself the Proper Baby Crib Bedding

A great way to get inspired while designing a baby's room is to start with baby crib bedding sets. You do have to be careful, though, when looking at baby crib bedding sets. Find a set that will be safe and not put your baby in harm's way. Experts say that less is more when it comes to bedding sets. You can use all sorts of cute baby sets in a playpen or an infant carrier but the set used where the baby sleeps needs to be as minimal as possible to keep your baby safe.

Infants are at high risk for suffocation because they are so helpless. There are many things that used to be part of baby crib bedding sets that are no longer recommended.

The best sets are soft, well made and provide a comfortable place for your baby to sleep at night and to nap.

One option is the banana fish baby crib bedding set, which has four pieces: a comforter, dust ruffle, bumpers and sheets for the crib. The banana fish sets come in all sorts of themes for both boys and girls so you are sure to find your favorite baby theme. There is also the banana fish 6-piece bedding set, which includes a bumper, crib sheet, a quilt, a window valance, a dust ruffle and a diaper stacker. These baby crib bedding sets are made in the traditional favorite themes, as well as new and unique themes. Another option is the banana fish 5-piece crib set, which has a bumper, a dust ruffle that can be reversed, crib sheets and a quilt.

You also have the option of buying baby crib bedding sets in neutral colors if you are not going to find out the sex of the baby until he or she is born. Some people prefer a simple, clean look in the nursery. The crib is the most important piece of furniture so parents have to choose one carefully and make sure it will not be too big for the nursery. For small rooms, parents may want to consider a crib changer combination piece of furniture. This type of furniture provides storage space and a place for your baby to sleep all in one. You may want to keep in mind that you will have to update the nursery's theme as your baby grows.

If you want to keep the same baby crib bedding sets as your baby grows, you may want to go with clean neutral colors. You can also find some modern patterns and colors in crib sets that will make the nursery unique. Some people go with a modern look in the nursery so they are looking for colors like black and gold. You can have fun picking out sets and accessories if that is the way you want to go with the nursery. You don't have to spend a lot of money on baby crib bedding sets even, as many of these are being sold inexpensively.

Finding the Best Baby Cribs on the Market

It's a fact that babies love to sleep. That's why it's so imperative to select the right baby crib for the nursery The question is...which baby cribs are the best? The answer to that is...there are many good baby cribs that will meet your needs. You just need to know the secret to finding the perfect crib for your baby.

Tip #1: When hunting for baby cribs, don't make your selection based on beauty alone. Do your research!

There are so many cribs nowadays that offer incredible beauty, adorable finishes and interesting designs, but just because a crib is sensational that doesn't mean that it's right for your baby's nursery. It's important to do research about the manufacturer, building process, materials used and recalls.

Tip #2: Learn everything you can about the manufacturer.

If there's a crib brand that you like then start by looking online to see if you can find information about the crib manufacturer. Check to see how long they've been in business. Learn all about their crib manufacturing process. Find out what type of materials they use including: woods, glues and chemicals. If you want an eco-friendly crib then make sure that they're an eco-friendly manufacturer. You also might want to check to see if their cribs have earned a JPMA certification as proof of safety.

Tip #3: Research recalls on all baby cribs in the last several years.

You can go to CPSC.gov and look up crib recalls to see if that manufacturer has had any major recalls in the last few years. But, just because they do have cribs that were recalled doesn't rule them out completely. You'll want to look at which cribs had recalls and why. Then check to see how the manufacturer handled the recalls and make sure that the crib you're looking at isn't on any recall list.

Tip #4: Decide which features and options are most important to you in a baby crib.

Once you decide on the particular brand of crib you want then it's time to pick out important features and options. Write a list of things you definitely want in your baby crib. If you want a bottom drawer on wheels, put that on your list. If you want an attachable changing station, put that down. Then check to see what features and options are available on the baby cribs you like. This will help you narrow down your choices to just a few or just one crib.

Tip #5: Measure your baby's nursery.

Once you know that the crib is a quality baby bed and made by a reputable company, it's time to measure, measure, measure. Measure the nursery and then check the baby crib's dimensions to make sure it will fit. Also decide what other furnishings you need and make sure you can fit those into the space with the crib in the room. There are mini cribs, standard cribs and convertible cribs which all come in different sizes, so make sure to get one that's just right for your baby's space.

Tip #6: Once you've done the research, picked the options and measured the space it's time to place your order.

Getting a complete nursery set is always a smart choice. Getting a set eliminates the chance of furnishings not matching in color and style. It might say that the crib is cherry and you might find a cherry changing table somewhere else, but the two cherry finishes could be different, making the pair look awkward in the room. If you get a full set you know you're getting furnishings that all offer the same quality, color and style that will make decorating the nursery a cinch.

Natural Bedding - Now I Lay My Baby Down to Sleep

As parents, should we be concerned when we lay our baby/child into their cribs and/or beds? They're just there to rest and sleep, right? We understand this quality time is for their restoration, health, and growth. The last thing we want to find out is the air they will be breathing and the bedding and mattress they are sleeping on might be harmful to them.

The respiratory rate (breath in and out) of an adult is 15-20 times/min. When we look at pediatric respiratory rates, they are as follows; a preschooler (3-6 years) breathes 22-34 times/min, a toddler (1-3 years) breathes 24-40 times/min, and an infant (birth-1 year) breathes 30-60 times/min. Simply stated, a toddler, while resting or sleeping in their bed will breathe in and out, 15,360 times a day, just during the time they are in bed! This figure would be even higher for an infant. As parents, what our children breathe is of great importance to us.

In 2006, regarding fire regulations and fire retardants, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued and updated their rules for mattress manufacturing. This was the first update since the creation of the Rules in the 1970s. The CPSC Rules (16 CFR Part 1633) states that mattresses must be fire retardant. Mind you, this is a good thing, in and of itself, problem is, that in the manufacturing process, chemicals are commonly used to accomplish this purpose. In doing so, a potential health hazard for our children is created. This article deals with the problems chemicals pose and offers a better and more natural bedding solution.

THE PROBLEM
Although these flame retardants pose great risks to human health, there are no current regulations in place requiring a manufacturer to inform the consumer about the flame retardants they use. Due to patents and such, the majority of bed manufacturers will not disclose the chemicals used in their fire retardant process, for fear of divulging their proprietary secrets and rights. As consumers, we have the right to not buy a mattress if full disclosure of its contents has not been given. As a parent, it is your right to know about everything your baby/child is breathing when they are resting or sleeping.

While it is generally accepted that fire retardant rules and regulations are good intentioned, it is parents who are ultimately responsible for the cumulative effects from any and all chemicals that might reach our children. As a consumer of children's goods, everywhere you turn, "the buck gets passed to you". This comes in the form of claims stating; "insufficient data to evaluate this product", or "at this level and at this exposure, this.... poses no immediate health threat to human life". As parents, the buck stops with us, as we are the first and last lines of defense. As parents, we are responsible for the cumulative effect of everything in the lives of our children.

We are told, over and over again, that exposure to, contact with, or breathing small amounts of various chemicals pose no imminent health risks. But, as parents, we are keenly aware that it is the cumulative effect we are really concerned about, not the single exposure or contact with questionable chemicals or agents.

The Federal Registry publication of the Final Rules (16 CFR Part 1633), reads as follows; "The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) & the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will continue to evaluate the potential effects of fire retardant treatments to ensure they do not present a hazard to consumers, workers, or the environment." What we have here is a situation where the long term effects of the chemicals used in fire retardants are not fully known. At best, the rules/regulations concerning bedding are an ongoing work in progress. Only time will tell what the eventual outcome will be. As consumers, we need to be aware of all that is in our children's environment and world.

THE NATURAL SOLUTION: WOOL BEDDING
One of the very sound things a parent or consumer can do would be to completely bypass the entire issue of fire retardant chemicals by purchasing a natural bedding mattress with thick outer layers of wool. By its very nature, wool is fire retardant. A mattress wrapped in wool satisfactorily passes every fire test available and this is accomplished without the use of chemicals. By meeting the Federal CPSC Rules (16 CFR Part 1633); a mattress wrapped in wool complies with the Federal fire retardant rules/regulations and is a natural bedding product.

Wool is a sustainable raw material (sheep only get a haircut), not harmful to the environment, and is actually healthy for the body. Furthermore, wool is naturally dust mite free, resists molds, and is naturally hypo-allergenic. On the other hand, commercially made mattresses are also fire retardant, but become so by using harmful chemicals. Unintentionally, the chemicals contribute to the cumulative effect of one's exposure and potentially harmful diseases.

A mattress manufacturer may have the right to not disclose their proprietary manufacturing secrets, but ultimately, a parent has the right to know what is in the products they will buy for their children. In the final analysis, you have the right to choose chemical free natural bedding for your child.

If your child has allergies, asthma, and/or chemical sensitivities, you might want to consider the choice of an organic mattress, wool pillow, or a wool comforter. When it comes to natural bedding, wool has many forms. Consider all of your options.

When Should I Purchase a Crib Bedding Set and Which One Should I Buy?

Depending on the crib bedding set you would like to purchase, it can take up to 12 weeks from the date you place your order to receive it. To ensure that you receive your baby bedding before your little one arrives, it is a good idea to place your order as soon as you have decided on a theme or color scheme for your nursery and know your baby's sex (if you plan to purchase a gender specific set).

If your baby is due in less than 12 weeks, consider purchasing a crib bedding set from a retailer that has the bedding in stock. Crib bedding manufacturers like Trend Lab, JoJo Designs, and Brandee Danielle have a large selection of baby bedding in stock and available for immediately delivery. So if you need your set now, one way to get it fast is to find a retailer that carries Trend Lab, JoJo Designs, or Brandee Danielle.

When you are searching for crib bedding, consider purchasing a set that comes with multiple accessories. Although most baby bedding comes as a 4 piece set, there are sets that come as 9 pieces. For example, all of JoJo Designs crib bedding sets are 9 pieces. Each 9 piece set comes with a crib blanket, fitted crib sheet, crib bumper pads, crib skirt (dust ruffle), diaper stacker, toy bag, decorative pillow, and two window valances. Buying your baby's bedding as part of a larger set can save you a lot of money and add a designer's touch to your baby's nursery.

When purchasing a crib bedding set, you should also consider whether you are planning on having a second child. If so, it may make sense to purchase a gender neutral set that can be used for a baby boy or a baby girl. In recent years, most of the major crib bedding manufacturers have started using more gender neutral fabrics, with yellows and greens, and black and white.

When Should You Move Baby to a Crib

When should you move your baby from his baby bassinet or co-sleeper to a crib?

First, if your infant is comfortable in a crib, then make the switch right away, so said an article I read. Some babies may enjoy this type of sleeping right from the start, rather than sleeping in a cozy baby bassinet. There is no need to wait for age or size to determine the move since a crib is designed for small infants up to toddler-age children.

However, if your baby seems to be snoozing fine without a crib, then the following are a few things to keep in mind when making the change. Most babies outgrow bassinets at 3 months of age. So, if your baby is reaching this age, it's time to make the transition to a crib.

Once your baby can move around and/or sit up, a bassinet is too small and dangerous for him. An infant has no concept of gravity and does not yet possess the skill to hold himself up with falling out of a bassinet, which is not constructed for mobile infants.

Do not put pillows and stuffed animals in a crib to fill it out since these items are SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) risks. Infants have been known to suffocate to death in soft pillows and toys.

To make the transition from a baby bassinet to crib a smoother one, get your child used to being in a large crib. Perhaps let him play in his crib for a while during the day. The article recommends letting him watch you tidy up from his crib.

I let my daughter get used to her crib by putting her in it a few minutes and having her mobile entertain her. I eventually put my daughter down to nap in her crib before she started sleeping in her crib in her own room at night. Then when she was ready, she slept in her crib through the night with no problems.

Baby Crib Mattress - Drifting Off To Dreamland On A Carefully Selected Mattress

A baby crib mattress may well be a more important purchase than the crib itself. Your little one will need a durable, firm, and safe surface for a snug sleeptime routine. An expensive crib is of little use, unless take care when choosing the baby crib mattress.

Sizing of baby crib mattresses are fairly standard, but take the necessary measurements along to ensure a snug fit in the crib. It is vital to make sure that the mattress is firm. If there is too much give, it can present a safety hazard.

Most manufacturers of baby crib mattresses offer you a choice of foam, or coil products. A foam mattress is light, yet firm. Changing the sheets are often easier with a lighter mattress. A coil mattress can be more durable, and will continue to provide a firm surface for a growing child. Your budget, and personal taste will be the determining factors in your choice.

Look for a cover that is waterproof, and meets Federal Flammability Standards. An anti-microbial layer is vital

The Da Vinci Emily 2 250 Coil baby crib mattress, with its 25 year warranty, offers versatility. Your baby will be truly comfortable on this mattress, which features a reinforced triple layer, anti-microbial, non-toxic, water-resistant cover. Turn the mattress over, and it is suitable for a toddler.

The unique internal Fire Barrier meets Federal Flammability Standards. These mattresses are also available in a twin size. Cleaning involves nothing more than wiping the baby crib mattress down with a damp sponge. This superb product comes with a lifetime warranty.

Also available is the Starlight Support Supreme Innerspring with Visco baby crib mattress. The viscoelastic foam is perfect for support, and ensures correct spine alignment. This mattress also offers just the right firmness for tiny babies, to thriving toddlers.

Does Your Baby Really Need a Crib?

This is an article on the usefulness and practicality of a baby crib. This is a "thinking outside the box" type of article, challenging the normal thought on baby cribs. Most people expect that when a baby is born, they need a crib and that is that. There are; however, some caveats to cribs and their usefulness/practicality. In this article, I will go over some of the ultimate pros and cons, the dangers of baby cribs (believe it or not there are dangers), and some other options outside of a crib for a baby.

The Pros:

There are some obvious pros to a baby crib of course. It is a standalone bed for your baby to have in its first 2-3 years of infancy. A baby crib is meant to nurture a baby and keep it comfortable/safe while sleeping. A crib generally doesn't have to cost too much money and is usually relatively easy to set up.The general Idea behind a crib is to have a safe place for an infant to sleep. Most all cribs have bars that keep toddlers from moving around too much and/or falling off the bed.

Most cribs nowadays are built to very strict standards. Most cribs are also built to withstand the weight of any toddler and are very sturdy. Most mattresses are also very comfortable and a lot of babies have no trouble sleeping on these mattresses.

The Cons:

Over the years, there have been some very bad crib producers. Some cribs have caused death and others have cause strangulation/suffocation resulting in permanent brain damage. Just look at all of the stories out there about toddlers suffering from the "safety" bars falling on them and suffocating them.

There are also some issues with mattresses. Some soft mattresses have been linked to SIDS. This is a very severe problem and this is a very hard thing to grasp. Most people recommend buying harder mattresses for a new baby; however, harder mattresses could mean more discomfort to a new baby, thus resultingin in poor sleep and crying fits.

Some alternatives:

There are some alternatives to cribs and many people advocate them. The baby co-sleeper is a great alternative to a baby crib. A co-sleeper allows the parents to have the baby in the bed safe with them every night. Of course, when a baby gets larger, you would have to buy a bed eventually; however, a co-sleeper will help avoid any worries of SIDS or suffocation froma crib.

Some parents actually believe in just having the baby sleep in the bed without a co-sleeper. I generally would not recommend this; whose to say you wont rollover on to your baby at night? This is; however, a pretty popular option for most people.

Overall Conclusion:

Most people don't think about whether or not they need a baby crib. Most people just assume that a baby crib is a part of their lives and that they need one in order to have a healthy baby. If you weigh the options, you may actually find that a baby crib doesn't necessarily support your lifestyle or habits.

In my humble opinion, I feel that a baby crib is a very important part of a baby's life. It is there to comfort, and in some cases entertain a baby throughout its first few years. As a new parent, you must make sure that what you are buying is something of very high quality. Do your homework and look at reviews before you make your baby crib purchase, it is a very important decision.

Which is the Best Cot Bed Mattress For My Baby?

A cot bed is usually a bed of a smaller version for your baby. The cot bed mattress used in cot beds is very easy to use and can be easily rolled out and folded up for storage. A cot bed mattress is usually thin and is made up of waterproof covering, which is about two inches thick and is fiber filled.

Cot bed mattress for campers

Cot bed mattresses are portable and are easy to clean. This makes them so popular among campers and outdoor folks who want to bring their babies along. These are easy to carry and are good options for those who do not prefer using sleeping bags for their babies.

There are many different types of cot mattresses available for your baby in the market- spring interior, special anti-allergy, foam, natural fiber or a combination of any of these. As a mother, you may be very concerned to know the right kind of mattress for your baby. In fact, according to The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, it doesn't matter what kind of mattress you chose as long as it is firm and soft, doesn't droop, fits the gap without any gap or does not wear and tear.

Types of cot bed mattresses

Spring interior mattresses: These mattresses are made of coiled springs covered with a layer of foam. On top of it, one side of the mattress is made of cotton fabric and the other side is made of wipe-clean plastic. You can easily transfer your baby to cotton side upwards when you think your baby is being overheated while sleeping on the plastic side of the mattress. However, you need to vacuum it regularly to keep dust mites away.
Pros: It is a very good traditional mattress for your baby
Cons: These mattresses are pretty expensive than a foam mattress

Foam mattresses: Foam mattresses are generally the cheapest one and have a PVC cover, which is very easy to clean. Some foam mattresses even have ventilation holes. When you are choosing a foam mattress for your baby, choose the one, which is at least 8 - 10 centimeters thick that will help your baby sleep well.
Pros: Foam mattresses are generally lightweight and are very cheap.
Cons: The PVC cover might make your baby feel sweaty in hot weather.

Hypoallergenic mattresses: If you were, too concern about allergies then choose a hypoallergenic mattress for your baby. These mattresses come with a quilted top layer that can be easily detached from the body of the mattress and you can wash it at 60 degree C.
Pros: These mattresses are very good choice if your baby is prone to allergies and are easy to clean.
Cons: This can be very expensive when compared to other kind of mattress.

Natural fiber mattresses: The interior of natural fiber mattress is filled with coconut fiber coated in latex, which makes it waterproof. These cot bed mattresses come with soft cotton covers.
Pros: If you do not want your baby to sleep on synthetic material, then this is a very good choice. Natural fiber mattresses are long lasting and hold its shape well.
Cons: These mattresses are not easily available like other mattresses and are more expensive than foam or spring interior mattresses.

Baby Crib Woodworking Plans - Heirloom in the Making

Made With Your Two Hands
Building a crib from baby crib woodworking plans should be a wondrous feeling. Beholding a thing of beauty you've just built with your own two hands for the new tyke is a joyous experience that can not be conveyed in mere words alone.

A hand made crib will be a prized heirloom that will be passed down from generation to generation if constructed properly. This is where baby crib woodworking plans have their place.

Start With A Plan
The procedure for construction of a newborn bed begins along with baby crib woodworking plans . Once deciding on the best drawings, bear in mind your level of woodworking skills. Are you a novice or advanced woodworker, or somewhere in between.

With a good set of drawings, it really doesn't matter. If your skill level is on the beginner woodworker level, then it will just take you a bit longer than someone more advanced.

How Much Time Do You Have?
Think of how long you have before the newborns bed needs to be ready, try not to get baby crib woodworking plans that are too complicated for your skill level and your time frame.

When deciding on a specific set of baby crib building plans, be sure to check that they are detailed enough and come with drawings, photos, material list and do contain specific steps all through out the building process. If at all possible, try and find drawings that contain exploded views of the procedures and steps in the project.

Bigger Is Better - Your Work Area
You will also want to ensure that you have an area large enough to complete the project. It will come in handy if you can lay out the parts of the project all in the same area, this will help you in "eyeing" up the project as you go.

Material Selection Is Crucial
This project will probably end up being a generational heirloom, so don't skimp on materials, get the best wood you can afford, this would be a type of hardwood.

Soft woods just will not last over the years like a hardwood will such as Oak. Finish will also be very important for durability and non-toxicity. Remember, this IS a newborns bed. The best advice for this is to talk to your local lumber yard clerk and explain what you're building and your concerns for a proper finish for your tykes bed.

Be sure and allow yourself enough time before you will need the bed, the finish itself will take some time to cure before the big day...there may also be some finish suggestions in your baby crib woodworking plans

Safe Baby Crib Bedding and Accessories

When it comes to decorating your baby's nursery there certainly are a lot of possibilities. You can choose from a variety of themes to suit your tastes or aspirations you have for your child. Or, you can keep things simple and low-key. However, when it comes to your baby's crib it's always best to keep things as simple and safe as possible.

In order to take every precaution necessary against the threat of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) the only things that should be in the crib besides your baby is a firm mattress with a tight fitting pad and sheet. You can add a decorative crib skirt or dust ruffle but avoid using puffy or padded bumper guards. If you need to use bumper pads only use those that are thin, firm, securely tied, and meshy. Bumpers should fit around the entire perimeter of the crib and tie or snap in at least six different locations. Make sure that bumper ties are no longer than 7 inches long.

When it comes to crib mattresses, federal regulations recommended measurements of 27 1/4 inches by 51 5/8 inches. The mattress should also not be more than six inches thick. If the crib mattress is too soft there is a danger that it will conform to your baby's shape and cause suffocation or SIDS. Also, if the mattress is too small, gaps in the crib could become danger zones for your baby. Both foam and innerspring mattresses are good choices as long as they meet the above criteria. Remember, don't add anything soft or plushy to your baby's crib including pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, or positioning devices. These all increase the risk of suffocation and SIDS.

Fitted sheets come in all types of fabrics, colors and styles to suit your tastes. You can consider coordinating the sheets with your window treatments or paint color. Prices for crib sheets vary depending on where you buy them. One company even specializes in designing crib sheets that have a removable top panel that zips onto the base of the sheet with a single, safety covered zipper. This makes changing the sheets much easier. All you have to do is clean the top sheet panel and leave the rest for later if your baby has a leaky diaper in the middle of the night.

Complementing Your Nursery Design With Designer Baby Cribs

Buying baby furniture such as baby cribs usually means balancing practicality with affordability, but you should never forget the importance of design and good looks in the decision making process. Babies are as much a part of the family as anybody else and they will almost certainly attract a lot of attention from other family members and friends as well, which may mean quick visits to the nursery to show him off. Whilst safety and practicality should obviously come first when choosing anything for your newborn baby that doesn't mean you have to compromise in terms of quality and design either.

Choosing Crib Styles

Practicality is important and you need to consider how readily available bedding will prove to be for round, oval, or even large rectangular cribs will prove to be. Buying the best looking oval crib may seem like a great idea at the time but if you don't buy enough bedding to go with it and you can't easily or readily get hold of bedding in the future then your purchase will have ultimately proven a mistake. With that said, you can buy bedding for oval cribs but it is certainly a consideration to bear in mind.

Ensuring Quality

Another important factor is the quality of the crib itself. Poor quality cribs may not only need replacing but may prove dangerous for your baby. Small parts can break off and cause choking hazards while poorly designed mattresses and bedding that is included with the crib can also be dangerous in its own way so pay careful attention when you're shopping around for the perfect designer baby cribs.

Bassinets

If space is an issue for you or you want baby near you should he wake up in the night, then you may want to look at the possibility of buying a bassinet rather than a crib. They are a lot smaller and more portable which means that they can usually fit into your room and are lightweight enough to be moved from one room to another as and when needed.

Cost

If cost is an issue, and it often is because of the cost of buying a whole range of stuff for a newborn child, then a bassinet may not be a practical solution. They have lower sides because they are really only designed for young babies that are not yet able to move around freely at night. When baby does start to wriggle and roll in the night then it is time to move him into a crib as a more permanent solution and to prevent him from falling out in the night.

Designer Baby Cribs

Designer baby cribs come in a selection of different styles and designs ranging from classic to contemporary and are also available in any of numerous different colors. As such, they can be chosen to match the design of the nursery while you can ensure that you get a high quality, long lasting baby crib and a functional addition to the nursery or to baby's bedroom.

10 Baby Nursery Ideas - Design A Fantasy World With Crib Bedding And Furnishings

Your baby nursery idea will begin to take shape while you shop for a crib and other furniture. Just be prepared to be overwhelmed at first by the mind boggling choice of themes. You may be looking for a complete furnishing set, or you may be day-dreaming about designing your own custom decor. Often a simple, classic approach is more sensible than a frilly, over-the-top baby nursery idea with paraphernalia that will just get in the way when you are frazzled and exhausted. This collection covers just a few of the thousands of possibilities.

1. Magical Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Decor

Who doesn't love the Mother Goose characters? Adorable watercolors bring these stories to life. Your baby will grow to love the colorful creations on the wall decor. This wonderful series will coordinate well with most baby furniture and you will easily be able to find bedding and furnishings to match. Colorful Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme quilts and blankets are a treat. This is a delightful, fresh theme.

2. Original With Other Lovable Characters

We all fall in love with certain lovable story book characters, such as Peter Rabbit or Snoopy. Winnie the Pooh is a favorite of almost any baby, and the bedding and furnishings are available to create a classic Pooh crib. Find Snoopy curled up under a friendly moon and starts. Or opt for a variety of Disney characters, such as Mickey Mouse. Furnishings with rhymes always lead to hilarity and enjoyment and can be a fun baby nursery idea.

3. Charm Your Kid With Cute Creatures

When it comes to babies, it is a given that they love cuddly animals. A vast variety of creature comforters are on offer. From farm animals to frog decor abound. For adventurous kids there is dinosaur bedding. Little girls love lady bug or butterfly designs. African safari crib bedding lends itself to endless bedtime stories. Dolphins, adorable puppies and Noahs Ark will also be well-loved.

4. Anything On Wheels Will Appeal

Boys love fire truck crib bedding as a baby nursery idea. Be different and decorate with Harley Davidsons. Alternatively take to the sky with airplane decor. Another old favorite on wheels is a train theme. Kids love cars and anything that moves or make a noise. So indulge them in their room.

5. Naptime On A Nautical Note

Ship Ahoy! Tell tales of sea creatures and far-away, dreamy places with furnishings on a nautical note. From ships and sails to whale's tales and other ocean critters will stimulate little imaginations. This is the stuff bedtime stories should be made of. Every night another place and a new animal.

6. Sporting A Lively Theme

Dads will probably opt for this one if they are involved in decorating for a boy. Every sport under the sun is now represented in cot accessories. Baseball fans can choose their favorite colors, while football and basketball enthusiasts have not been forgotten. Just don't put too much pressure on the growing little person. Remember dad, this is his life - not your second chance...

7. Proudly Display Your Patchwork Creations

This baby nursery idea comes in every conceivable color and pattern. It often is a sensible choice, as the inevitable spills and mishaps won't be as noticeable. Patchwork quilts often become heirlooms. Perhaps you can make your own quilt from fabrics scraps with a story attached to each one. That can make for some interesting bedtime tales. Plaids are also a good choice, if you don't fancy patchwork.

8. A Star For Your Little Star

Watch your baby's face lit up as he or she discovers the wonders of creation. Why not help in this process with the moon, stars, planets and spaceships on bedding and curtains. All sorts of wonderful accessories can be added to complement this theme. You may have to brush up on your own knowledge about the subject, but you will need to do that anyway when your child reaches school-going age. With an outer space crib set your bundle of joy will go on many an adventure.

9. Turn Back The Clock With A Vintage Theme

Perhaps your family has some heirlooms you would like to incorporate in your design. With the right furniture, an old-world look can be quite something. You can always introduce a touch of color and some modern elements to stimulate the baby's senses. Try to use a variety of fabric textures for tactile stimulation when expanding on this baby nursery idea.

10. Teach To Care With Care Bears Bedding

These can be really adorable, with bright and cheery colors. Babies love these sets. A wide variety of accessories are also available, from bedtime bears to potty seats and keepsake pillow sets. You can also find delightful Care Bear lamps, area rugs, crib organizers and wall borders to go with the cot set and curtains.

Full sets usually include the fitted sheet, a quilt of some sort, pillow cases, crib bumper, dust ruffle, curtains and valance. Many manufacturers dream up all sorts of adorable, matching accessories to bring the room together. Wall hangings always help to create a warm effect.

So, get yourself a cup of tea, kick off your shoes, pull up the rocking chair and day-dream about all the magical hours you are going to spend here, discovering all the wonders of your baby nursery idea with your little one.

Monkey Theme for the Nursery

Strongly thematic nursery décor is becoming increasingly popular with mothers-to-be. They appear to prefer this thematic approach to nursery decorating as compared to focusing primarily on colors. Many of the crib bedding manufacturers cater to this style, offering a wide assortment of themed crib bedding patterns along with as many as 20 or more nursery decorating accessories that coordinate with them. Among the more popular themes are farm animals, garden scenes, and jungle-safari.

Within the jungle-safari theme, monkeys are making a strong showing in recent years. Jungle themed collections seem to be more frequently and prominently featuring monkeys. Two recently introduced patterns attack this monkey theme straight on - Monkey Business by Cocalo and Monkeying Around by Bebe Star.

Designed for a baby boy's nursery, Cocalo's Monkey Business uses a variety of blues, browns, and yellows in a patchwork of plaid fabrics that comprise the crib comforter. Monkeys are featured throughout the comforter and all of the many coordinated nursery décor accessory pieces. Through the use of embroidery and embroidered appliquéd fabrics, Cocalo has created very cute and childlike monkeys resting in a hammock, swinging from vines, and sleeping against a tree. For a slight educational angle, these monkeys are presented in groups of one, two, or three, with the associated number displayed nearby.

Monkeying Around by Bebe Star takes a somewhat different approach to the theme. Bebe Star using much softer colors and fabrics and presents monkeys that are heavier on the embroidery as compared to appliquéd fabrics. This set also features the pillow style four-piece bumpers that are (unfortunately, in my opinion) found less and less frequently. Monkeying Around should work for both a boy's and girl's nursery.

If you like monkeys but are not looking for a crib set dominated by them, a number of safari theme patterns have very cute monkeys, including: African Plains and On Safari by Brandee Danielle, Day at the Zoo and Jungle Babies by Nojo, and Zanzibar by Kidsline. Each of these sets come with a wide assortment of nursery décor accessories.

How Long Will My Premature Baby Be in the NICU?

One of the first questions any parent is going to ask after they receive the first status on their new premature baby is about how long the baby will have to stay in the NICU. While it is not possible to give an exact answer to that question, once doctors have had a chance to thoroughly look over your baby, they can give you a good idea about how long you can expect to be visiting your preemie in the NICU. Remember that this is a guess and your baby could stay longer, or could go home sooner.

The answer we got when we asked how long with my baby be in the NICU was something I suspect is pretty standard. They told us to expect him to be there until his original due date. For us, that was three months away, and seemed like an eternity. This may be the answer they give to most parents if their preemie does not have any major medical issues other than those associated with infant prematurity. This may be a fail safe, as if they tell parents a shorter time, and the baby must stay longer, those parents tend to get really upset. Expect them to give you a guess but remember they can not give you a definite day.

There are many things that are going to determine how long your preemie will be in the NICU. If your baby has a brain bleed, that has to clear up. My son has a level one, which went away or healed on its own. It was not serious. However, babies with level three or four brain bleeds may have to stay longer. If your baby starts to digest foods right away, that can shave some time off of your NICU stay. A baby that struggles with this may stay longer, but not always. Each baby and each problem is different, that is why they can not do more than guess.

Some babies are naturally going to be in the NICU longer than others. Those that require surgery for serious heart defects may have a much longer stay. Those that need the ventilator for a while have a long way to go before they are breathing on their own. Some babies just get out of the NICU quicker than others. You have to keep telling yourself that if your preemie did not need to be there, he or she would be home with you. The last thing you want is to take a baby home that is not ready.

For some reason, boys tend to stay in the NICU longer than girls. This is not a fact by any means, but an observation by some of the NICU nurses that cared for my son. They told me that they noticed that girls tend to develop and go home faster than boys though they could not tell me why. This is not true with all premature babies, of course, but just an observation by those that work in the NICU.

Considerations When Choosing a Crib Mattress

Considerations when choosing a crib mattress always come into play when the time has arrived to begin setting up a newborn or soon-to-arrive baby's room or nursery. Of course, safety in a mattress should be the number one priority regardless of any other requirement. As well, the mattress needs to be as comfortable as possible for the benefit of the new baby.

Generally speaking, it's fairly easy to find the right size mattress for a crib because they only come in a few standard sizes, depending on whether the crib is for a newborn or one that's just a little bit older. Still, it's always wise to measure crib dimensions before running out to buy a new mattress, because it's important that there be little or no gap between the mattress and the crib sides.

As a way of testing that the crib is providing a snug fit against the mattress, take two fingers and try to force them between the side of the crib and the mattress. If it can be done, the mattress is too small. Normally, only one finger, at most, should be able to snugly fit between the two.

When it comes to firmness of the mattress, it's usually a good idea to go with one that's reasonably so. Remember; babies can't move themselves out of awkward positions, such as when they happen to roll over and find themselves with the sides of their face against the mattress. It's easy to see that the baby would do better with a firmer surface rather than one in which his head sinks into a depression.

It's also a good idea to go with a quality mattress cover. Babies are well known for having all kinds of little digestive issues, and a cover can help prevent the possibility of the mattress being stained or even ruined by some of the things that babies bring back up. Most experts recommend a multi-layer cover for durability, which should also be backed by quality construction.

Most good baby mattresses don't actually cost all that much money, which is surprising, considering how expensive most items related to a baby generally are. For less than $100, a good-quality mattress that's both safe for the baby and also durable can be had. There are specialty mattresses, of course, and they could be worth the price in cases where a baby suffers from an allergy or the like.

A good crib mattress is usually certified by a mattress manufacturer association or group as well as by Underwriters Laboratories, in general. Always check the mattress for firmness (it should be reasonably firm and not squishy-soft) as well as the quality of its construction. And always make sure it fits properly in order to avoid any large spaces between the mattress and the crib sides.

Where to Buy a Round Crib

Once you have decided on a round crib, you need to decide which one is the best. Some of the biggest furniture and toy stores offer round cribs these days. Why would you want a general furniture or toy store supply you with a crib. After all this is where your baby will be when they are not in your arms, Right?

You want to make sure that you are getting a crib from a store that specializes in baby products, most importantly baby bedding. You do not want to buy a crib from a store that also sells kitchen supplies. To me that seems unsettling. I want to know that the crib I'm putting my baby in is coming from a company that is focused on children.

Babies R Us is a great example of a place that I would trust buying a crib from. After all their main focus are babies and children. They have a huge variety of cribs, and crib bedding. This store is great for standard products for babies and children. But, where do you find that unique style of round crib that you are looking for?

Round cribs are making a comeback, so it may be hard to find a reliable source to buy from. And you want to make sure that you are buying a quality crib. If you have searched cribs, and end up with a site that offers Little Miss Liberty cribs, you are on the right track.

Little Miss Liberty round cribs are the safest on the market. Little Miss Liberty products have never been subject to recall. All Little Miss Liberty round cribs are made in America, and are only made of the finest American products.

Affordable Organic Crib Mattress

Sometimes, purchasing a bit more of an expensive organic crib mattress is just not an option. The top of the line manufacturers make outstanding products but they can be a bit out of reach price-wise. First, do consider purchasing high quality and never overlook the benefits of going with organic. You will spend a bit more for organic but you will keep your child from suffering from some of the illnesses that are often caused by the seeping of chemicals into a child's skin from the standard crib mattress. Second, remember that while you are spending a bit more, the quality design of these organic mattresses will allow you to use them for all of your children, year after year. At the end of the day, though, you may still want a bargain. For that, consider organic wool and organic rubber mattresses.

Organic wool mattresses are outstanding. You will want to consider purchasing these because of their added benefit of being fire retardant. These often are made with wool batting that is wrapped around the core, to provide a comfortable yet completely protective barrier for the child. In addition, wool mattresses may have an organic cotton wrap on them to provide even more comfort to your child.

Another option is the organic rubber mattresses that are on the market. Rubber is a good option for many reasons, including its affordability (which we will talk about in just a minute.) In particular, natural rubber, or latex, is ideal because of its ability to be ultra supportive to the child's body without being too firm. It is a good option for those who want to use the crib mattress in a toddler bed.

Rubber, or latex, and wool can be troublesome for some children with an allergy to these products. If your child has this type of allergic reaction to these items, be sure to keep them out of your home. Still, most children will do fine with these products since they are all natural and they contain none of the harsh chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides that so many other products do. Your child does not need those to seep into their skin.

Saving Money

So, how can you get the best affordable organic crib mattress without breaking the bank? If possible, choose wool or rubber mattresses. Some of the least expensive products are those available through PureRest Organics. These budget organic crib mattresses contain a rubber center made in either India or Europe. They do have a small amount of the chemical toluene in them, but the company does not hide this fact (that is important!) If you purchase these, you will find that the chemicals are minimal and in fact are only contained in the very core of the mattress. The core is then wrapped completely in the organic wool or cotton batting and topped with an all-organic cotton layer for added protection. Therefore, the small amount of chemical does keep the company from charging full price, but the material is only found within the very center and therefore is virtually harmless to the child.

When choosing any type of crib mattress, be sure it is the safest one possible (do invest in only all organic products whenever it is possible to do so.) If you do need to watch your budget, choose a company that is upfront about what is contained in the mattresses and be sure that any material that could touch your child is all organic. By doing this it will help you get budget friendly, while still finding an affordable organic crib mattress that you can trust.

How to Reuse a Crib Mattress For Your Next Baby

Crib mattresses can only be used by your baby for 1 year or two. After that, they can be moved to a bigger type of mattress that they can use during their childhood years. If you have had a crib mattress used by your first baby, that can still be reused by your next baby. What it needs is a bit of cleaning and sprucing up and you are good to go.

Step 1: If the mattress has been cooped up in a separate room or in an attic, chances are, various whatnots are already breeding in it. It is best to clean it in a spacious are where you can spruce it up properly.

Step 2: Vacuum the mattress first. This is to remove the unwanted dust, dust mites and some of the cobwebs that might have formed on it. You can also give it a little whack to further remove the dusts.

Step 3: Prepare cleaning solutions. The first cleaning solution you are going to use is the vinegar solution. Just mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water. Place it in a spray bottle and spray it on both sides of the mattress. Another method is to put the solution on a basin and just use cloth to absorb the solution. Wipe the mattress using the cloth. You might want to wear gloves before doing this as the vinegar can prune up your skin. Leave the solution there for an hour.

Step 4: After an hour, dampen another clean cloth with water and then wipe the mattress with it. This is to remove the smell and the remaining vinegar solution.

Step 5: Buy a pack of baking soda and sprinkle it on the mattress. Other than being a good stain remove, baking soda also has the natural ability to diffuse any unwanted smell. Leave it there for 30 minutes to get rid of vinegar smell further and to get rid of remaining bacteria in the mattress. Afterwards, vacuum the mattress again.

Step 6: Leave it under the warmth of the sun for half a day to further clean it out and to dry it completely. Afterwards, install the mattress on the crib. Put hypoallergenic mattress protectors and covers so your next baby can sleep on it with ease.

Wouldn't you like to save a few hundred bucks by cleaning your old crib bed rather than buying a new one?

Baby Bedding - Everything Needed to Crib About!

One could wish infants understood the quality of branded and expensive baby bedding available for them! Some parents wonder whether they should be spending so much as the investment is for a mere few months. But those who want the best are willing to shell out a lot. Expenses aside, two things that are critical to baby bedding is hygiene and comfort level. Babies spend more time in their cribs, so no parent would land up cribbing about it! An average baby bedding will have about nine pieces which includes blankets, pillows, sheets, feeding equipment, sleeper bags and mosquito nets. With interesting cartoon characters, the mobile van for the baby bedding is as good as a vanity van.

Here is what should be best for the tender heart and feet. If you plan to move out with the baby it should have space for number of soft toys, maybe a little music to soothe the ears, and space for feeding bottles and a little change of clothes. Well it just makes life easier for the doting mom. Readymade baby bedding sets can be found in stores. The sheets are soft, have cartoon characters printed and tiny pillows of heart shape or rectangle or round shapes. A minimum of three pillows are ideal-one for the head and two to be kept on the sides while the baby is awake. A pillow needs to be good as the head of the baby is still soft.

Double blankets can be added. They are printed on one side and plain on the other side. And while traveling outside a mosquito net is ideal. Sleeper bags are an additional requirement for long trips. They should have good zippers to keep the baby snug. There are sleeper bags with two wings or flaps. The sets can be found in soft pastel shades of pink, blue light green and white.

Baby bedding should be comfortable as it means a peaceful time even for the mother. If the baby is comfortable it is less likely to make a noise and wake up everyone. A baby should not feel too hot or cold. Anything that will cause discomfiture will make it howl. Once you have the basics, you may want some extra accessories. There is a wide selection of duvets, extra pillows, diaper stackers, feeding bottle spaces, music, toy compartments, wall hangings, rugs and mats, window valance and bassinet.

Things to Consider When Buying a Baby Crib

There are so many different price ranges, types and styles of baby cribs available today that it can be quite mind boggling. The first questions that should pop into your head are what you should be looking for and where to start. Crib safety should be the most important consideration for the baby's sake. This will include crib placement as well as several other safety related aspects. This is a very important consideration when looking at meeting the needs of your little one. No matter if you are building your own or buying one, there are a few tips that you should use when choosing a crib.

Once again, safety is the most important factor when buying a crib. There are many safety standards that have been put into place by the government as to the standards a baby crib must meet. If you are purchasing or will be getting a used baby crib then you should check it out according to these standards. Any issues should be corrected before using the crib. One of the most important of these issues is to check for loose, broken or missing slats. Any that are loose should be properly secured, and any that are broken or missing should be replaced. You should also check out all the hardware to make sure it is properly tightened as well. Decorative cutouts are pretty to look at but very dangerous for a little one. They could get stuck and hurt or worse. Avoid beds with such cutouts.

The sides and corner posts of a baby crib are another issue that can involve a good deal of checking. Crib slats on the headboard, footboard and/or sides of the crib should not be over 2-1/8" apart. Any further and your baby could possibly get his or her little head stuck in between. All corner posts of the crib should be no higher than 1/16" above the head or footboard. Any higher and these could pose a hanging hazard. No matter if the crib comes with one or both sides that can be lowered to reach you little one, you should check them out. Make sure that the latching mechanisms are functioning properly especially their ability to properly latch closed. A baby crib with defective latches could allow the sides to drop open and the baby could possibly get injured.

One other very important issue to check into is the mattress for your baby crib. You should make sure that the mattress fits the baby crib in a snug fashion. It doesn't matter if you are buying a new bed that comes with its own or if you are purchasing a mattress for a crib you bought without one. It is possible for a little one to become caught between a mattress and the slats or posts if a mattress doesn't fit the crib properly.

No matter what shape, size, color or fashion of baby crib you purchase it is important to make sure that it is both safe and sound. Little ones love to wriggle, wiggle and crawl. As such we must do our best to keep them safe and secure. This means making safety checks on all equipment that will be involved in their care.

* Rail high level for at least 26 centimeters. If the height of the rail is less than three-quarters of a baby's height, it is no longer safe for the baby.

WOOD

In learning how to build baby a crib, I have come to the point of choosing a timber. I have the possibility to choose a soft or hard wood. Generally cost more hardwood than soft woods, but to know, I wanted to build a sturdy crib child, I opted for mahogany.

All finishing is non-toxic when fully cured. But as a parent, I want the extra security, because children would only chew on just about everything, especially when they are old teething. Therefore, when it comes to equipment do I go for shellac, as it is sometimes used to confectioners coating on candy. It isas non-toxic, I like to be.

After a comprehensive list of materials before I was able to anticipate tools to the total cost of the crib and a step-by-step guide save me some time in the situation which led to the creation.
